Update from the Superintendent

The superintendent, Dr. Sue Charochak, sent out the following information today. You may have received a phone call or email already with this information. The video Dr. Charochak mentions is linked below.

Good Afternoon Beverly Parents and Families,

I hope that you are enjoying this unexpected snow. While I am not a fan of the wet and cold, it certainly paints a beautiful landscape.

I am writing to you today to share a video Loom presentation that I hope will answer some of the questions that many of you have regarding COVID-19 and the response of the schools to any positive cases within our school community. Please take a few minutes to watch the video and feel free to reach out with any questions you may have to either covidquestions@beverlyschools.org, which is an email monitored by our school nursing staff, to your building principal or to myself at Central Office at scharochak@beverlyschools.org. We appreciate our partnership with families and thank you for your patience and trust as we work together to keep our students and staff safe.

Please take care to remain vigilant with all safety measures that will help us prevent the spread of the virus and stay safe this weekend!

Virtual Book Club at Beverly Public Library

The Beverly Public Library has a young adult book club on Thursday, December 1 from 4-5 pm. with the book Artemis Fowl.

Twelve-year-old Artemis is a millionaire, a genius-and above all, a criminal mastermind. But Artemis doesn't know what he's taken on when he kidnaps a fairy, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit. These aren't the fairies of the bedtime stories-they're dangerous!

Join in via Zoom for a discussion of Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer, available as an eBook from hoopla–no wait - or email Ms. Woznick at awoznick@beverlyschools.org to borrow a copy from the BMS Library.

Participants must register in advance. An invitation will be sent to participants the day of the discussion.

Questions? Contact Meghan at karasin@noblenet.org.

Band practice will be virtual today (Thursday) due to the inclement weather.

Beverly-Salem Climate Change Survey

The Cities of Beverly and Salem have officially kicked off Resilient Together, a collective plan to address climate change.

Resilient Together invites residents and business owners – including students – to participate in an online survey where you can share concerns and priorities as they relate to the environment and community resiliency. It takes approximately five minutes to complete and will be active until November 8th.

The survey is also offered in Spanish and in Portuguese. A printable copy of the survey is available on the project website in Albanian as well.

See this flyer for more information or visit the Resilient Together project website. Follow it on social media on Facebook or Instagram or Twitter. Still have questions? Contact Beverly's Assistant Planning Director, Emily Hutchings at ehutchings@beverlyma.gov.

No Cross Country Practice Thursday

Attention all cross country runners:  Due to heavy rain starting this morning and persisting through the afternoon, today's (Thursday) practice has been cancelled.

Getting Books This Year

Ms. Woznick, the BMS School Librarian, is in the process of meeting with teams throughout the school to review the many ways students can get reading materials this year. This document reviews many different choices for accessing books, ebooks, eaudiobooks, and more.

We are particularly lucky to have access to the Mass Library System's Commonwealth ebook collection through the Sora app. Students can download the app from Self Service onto their iPads, or you can get it for free from app stores for personal devices. This video demonstrates how to get Sora and set it up.
