Parent Volunteers Needed - All Grades!

The Grade 8 Recognition Night events will be held on Thursday, June 13.  The winning dance theme is Bright Lights, Big City!

We need parents of children in ALL GRADES to assist with this celebration.

ONLY grade 5/6/7 parents can chaperone during the dance. You must complete a CORI form in advance. 

We can use parents of children in any grade to volunteer for setup and decorating. Go to volunteersignup.org/WBB3K to sign up today!

iPad Stay at BMS Over Vacation

We would like to remind you that students will NOT be allowed to take their iPads home over vacation; this includes seventh and eighth grade students. We need to ensure that iPads are ready to go for MCAS the week after vacation.

Teachers will collect iPads prior to the end of the school day today (Frida)y. Students are also not allowed to take iPads home the night before their actual MCAS tests.

Summer Montessori Programs

Summer Montessori offers academic skill development for students entering grades 1-6. Students can sign up for one or more weeks during the summer.

Swim Classes

Can your child swim 100 yards? If not, he or she may not be "water safe." There are plenty of swim classes available at the North Shore YMCA for children of all ages, as well as a competitive swim team.

40th Annual Good Friday Walk Next Friday

The 40th Annual Good Friday Walk happens on Friday, April 19, 2019!

It's a great ppportunity to help Families in need on the North Shore and to earn up to 5 Community Service Hours.

The 10.5 mile walk starts and ends at The Saints Academy between 7:30 AM and 9:30AM, and the Walk ends at 2:15.

April Vacation Next Week

April Vacation is coming up! There is no school for students next week, from Monday, April 15 (Patriot's Day) through Friday, April 19 (Good Friday).

Classes will resume on Monday, April 22.

Earth Day is on April 22, but in Beverly it'll last the whole month of April!

Eighth grade trip to Boston update…

As balances are now due, I should have a final number of trip attendees by the end of this week. I will then know how many chaperones I need, and will get in touch with those who have applied to be a chaperone after April vacation.

And after our fundraising event last week, I will soon know how much money I have available to support those who have applied for financial assistance for this trip. If you are a person who would like to receive financial assistance and have not yet spoken with me, please call or email this week.

If you have a balance owed, please send your payment in by Friday, or call me to request an extension. Also feel free to email if you are not sure what your balance is at jnorton@beverlyschools.org.

Ultimate Frisbee will be played on Mondays, 3:05-3:45 on the turf, from Monday, April 22 until June 3. There is no advance signup - just come on the first day. All are welcome - it is for grades 5-8 and is co-ed. The club will meet inside if it is raining.

Grade 8 Year-End Information

The Grade 8 Recognition Night events will be held on Thursday, June 13.  The winning dance theme is Bright Lights, Big City! The last day of school for 8th graders will be Friday, June 14. (The last day for students in grades 5/6/7 is on Monday, June 17.)


Some students and parents/guardians have begun asking about proper attire for the recognition ceremony and celebration. Please assist us as we focus on this annual age-appropriate function. This is a school event and only proper attire will be allowed.

Suggestions for boys would be a shirt & tie with slacks and comfortable shoes; sneakers are discouraged. Boys may wear a suit but should think about comfort.

Suggestions for girls include pants, capris, skirts, or sun dresses. Dresses and skirts should be of appropriate length and shoes should have a lower heel. Strapless dresses, semi-formal wear, and long gowns are not appropriate for an event such as this.

Math Team Wrap Up

Math team will not meet in April or May. Our last meeting will be June 6th from 3-3:45 in the 3rd floor cafeteria for an ice cream celebration. 
 
Overall the math team had a very successful season ending, with a team high of 104 points in the last and most challenging meet. The math team will also miss its two 8th graders who have been with us since 6th grade! Justin Chen finished his final season with 72 points, and David Vozzo finished with 54 points. Congratulations gentlemen, and good luck in high school!

Swim Classes

BMS Volleyball

Gr 8 - BHS Laptop Lease Program

To 8th Grade Parents: The information and directions to lease a Beverly High School laptop will be distributed on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 in your child's homeroom. Online registration will be from April 23rd to June 15th. 
 
Also, if your child has applied to Essex Tech, do not register for a laptop from April 23rd to June 15th because the first registration payment is non-refundable. The Tech Center orders extra laptops to be available to students who had applied to Essex Tech but are not admitted. In this situation, call the BHS Tech Center at 978-921-6132 ext. 11171 as soon as you receive notification, and we will hold a laptop for your child. Next, you must come to the Tech Center to fill out the appropriate registration form with payment (you will not be able to register online). Please note, this is on a first come first serve basis, so please call the BHS Tech Center as soon as you have been notified by Essex Tech. If you have any questions please call the BHS Tech Center at 978-921-6132 ext. 11171.

Food Service PSA

Did you know you can limit student spending in the cafeteria if needed? Student accounts can be blocked from allowing the purchase of anything beyond a breakfast or lunch meal, or specific notes can be added to a student's account, such as, “Only allow one add-on” or “No more than two bags of chips.”

Kestrel Summer Programs

Kestrel Education has some great summer programs for children aged 4-12.

Being Animals is a one-week morning program for children age 4 to 7. Survival Rockport has four one-week sessions and is for children aged 8 to 12.

Poetry Contest Finalists

We have three finalists at Beverly Middle School for the 23rd Annual Beverly Public Library Teen Poetry Contest! This contest is open to teens who live or go to school in Beverly and each year draws finalists who attend a range of different area schools.

Also, former Briscoe Middle School student Libby Panico, who is currently a senior at Beverly High School, is a finalist.

Family, friends, and members of the public are invited to a ceremony at the Beverly Public Library on Wednesday, April 24 at 7pm. Finalists have been invited to read their poems aloud and at the conclusion of the readings, prizes will be announced and awarded, followed by a small reception. 

Today's "Stay in Place"

Mr. Poska, Principal of Beverly Middle School, would like you to know that the middle school went into a 'Stay in Place' at 9:35 AM for approximately 30 minutes this morning. This was due to a medical emergency regarding a student. The issue was addressed with minimal interruption, and we resumed our regular school day.

National Jr. Honor Society

Just a reminder that there is a National Jr. Honor Society meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) in the third floor cafeteria from 3:05 - 3:45pm. 

Students are expected to arrive with a rough draft of their Honored Guest Invitations as well as a blank stationary card of their choosing.

Beverly Youth Football and Cheerleading

Beverly Youth Football and Cheerleading registration is now open!  Beverly youth football and cheerleading programs are for children in grades 1 - 8.  The football season begins August 31 and the cheerleading season begins on July 1. Grade 8 - Boston Trip Reminders

Attention Grade 8 Parents,

This is just a reminder that the final payment for the Grade 8 Boston Trip was due on Friday, April 5. The trip will be on Wednesday, June 12, 2019.
