Field Hockey Wins!

Congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade Field Hockey team for their win vs. Marblehead yesterday. Goals were scored by 8th grade Lily Shea and by 7th grader Elliot Lund for a final score of 2-1. 

 The team will play again today at Marblehead and should meet the bus out back immediately after school. Any questions? Please see Coach McGrath in room 444.

Vaping Presentations for Students

On Wednesday we had  a speaker from the Massachusetts Partnerships for Youth who held assemblies with each of the four grade levels about the dangers and issues  for youth around vaping and e-cigarettes.

Our school nurses have some information for  you to facilitate a discussion with your children: Talk About Vaping With Your Middle Schooler: Why It's Important and How to Do It

Please feel free to contact the school health office if you have additional concerns about vaping related issues with your student.

Math Team Meets Success

The mat team had a successful first meet with a top scoring 7th grader in Madeleine Young and a top scoring 6th grader in Charmaine Usuanlele. The team struggled with the geometry round but came back with a great algebra round and 20 point team round.

Travel Basketball Tryouts Thursday

Tryouts for both boys' and girls' travel basketball teams will be this week - boys on 10/23 & 10/24 and girls on 10/22 & 10/24.

Girls Travel Basketball 

If your daughter would like to try out for one of the Girls Middle School Travel Basketball Teams please note that tryouts are Thursday, October 24th at Beverly Middle School.  The times are:
  • Grades 4, 5 and 6: 5:45 PM registration followed by 6:00 – 7:30 tryout session 
  • Grades 7 and 8: 7:15 PM registration followed by 7:30 – 9:00 tryout session
There is no fee for the tryout session and it is suggested that the girls attend both sessions. Please note that the middle school travel basketball teams are separate from the in town Kiwanis basketball program run by the Beverly YMCA or after school intramurals run by BMS.

  • Grades 4, 5 and 6: 5:30 PM registration followed by 6:00 – 7:30 tryout session 
  • Grades 7 and 8: 7:00 PM registration followed by 7:30 – 9:00 tryout session
There is no fee for the tryout session. The fee for a player who makes a team will be $350 for the season. The registration form should be completed and brought to the tryouts. 

Games are played on weekends and typically begin in late November or early December and run through end of February or early March.

Please note that the middle school travel basketball teams are separate from the in-town Kiwanis basketball program run by the Beverly YMCA and after school intramurals run by BMS.

Lost and Found Filling Up Fast

Another 20 items have been added to the lost and found since last week!

Please ask your child to check the lost and found if they are missing anything or stop by yourself.

Items are tagged weekly and anything in the lost and found for more than a month is donated to charity.

Black Team XC

Attention black team cross country members: if you are attending today's Jim Munn Invitational meet, Coach Arsnow will meet you at the baseball field at Stage Fort Park when you arrive. 

As a reminder, buses are not provided for this meet, so you must coordinate with your parents for transportation needs. If you are not attending this meet, please meet Coach Sparkman on the turf field  at BMS for practice.

New Travel Opportunity for Grade 8

Attention all 8th grade students & parents! Are you interested in travel and learning about Puerto Rican culture? Come to our informational parent meeting on Tuesday, October 29 at 6:30 pm in the room 115  (first maker space on first floor)  to hear about this exciting new opportunity for students to travel to Puerto Rico during April vacation 2020. Fuddruckers Fundraiser Tonight 5-8

Come to Fuddruckers in Reading, MA tonight (Thursday) between 5-8pm and 20% of the cost of your meal goes towards the BMS Music Department!

Riley McGoldrick has broken a middle school cross-country record at Stage Fort Park with a time of10:38 and a distance of 1.74 miles

French 8 Cuisine Night Tomorrow

Attention French 8 students, parents and guardians!

As a capping event for our unit on "La cuisine française," we will join together this Thursday, October 24, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for a community supper.

The event will take place at BMS in the first floor cafeteria.

This will be a chance for students (with help from home) to make and share the dishes they have learned about and to celebrate French culture through its food.

Madame Diop, our new Grade 7 French teacher, will be joining us.

Please know that if you are not able to bring a dish, you are still welcome to attend. I will be making a few dishes myself, so there should be enough for everyone.

BPL Pizza & Movie Thursday

Movies, books -- and pizza this fall at the public library. What could be better?

This week, on Thursday, October 24 from 3:30 – 5:30 PM the Beverly Public Library will be showing Captain Marvel on the big screen in the Sohier Room…with free pizza! This event is for students in grades 6-12 only -- no parents or younger children!

The Pizza Book Club is reading Cloud and Wallfish by Anne Nesbet this fall. Read a great book, discuss it, and eat free pizza on Tuesday, November 12 from 3:45-4:45. It is open to teens in grades 6-12, but is especially good for middle school. (BMS students: Ask your teacher if Pizza Book Club can fulfill your independent reading requirement.)

Gr 8 - Essex Tech Presentation Thursday

On Thursday, October 24 from 9:00 - 9:45, admissions counselors from the Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School will present to our Grade 8 students outlining their programs and the Admissions process, including their Open House information. Some Tech students may join the Admissions Counselors to participate in the presentations and contribute to the Q&A segment at the conclusion of the presentation.

Open House for Essex Tech will be on Saturday, November 16. Check the Essex Tech website for details
