Poetry Contest Deadline March 1

The Beverly Public Library's Teen Poetry Contest is accepting entries until Monday, March 1 at 4:00 pm.

Tomorrow, Saturday, February 9, you can drop off used sports equipment at Beverly High School from 11 am to 2 pm for the Replay community service project. Replay is collecting and redistributing gently used sports equipment to youth organizations in Beverly and Lawrence.

YMCA Teen Dance Tonight

There will be a YMCA Teen Dance held tonight at the Teen Center! It will run from 7pm-10pm. You can come to the Y with your friends, hang out, and dance throughout the night. Only $10 per student, snacks and drinks are sold for $1-$2 each. All students must be picked up no later than 10:15pm.

CPR Class at BHS Monday 2/11

A CPR class will be held at Beverly High School this Monday as a fundraiser for the BHS Girls' Basketball program.

Grade 8 Recognition Night Info

The exact date/time for Grade 8 Recognition Night events have not yet been set. However, some students and parents/guardians have begun asking about proper attire. Please assist us as we focus on this annual age-appropriate function. This is a school event and only proper attire will be allowed. Suggestions for boys would be a shirt & tie with slacks and comfortable shoes; sneakers are discouraged. Boys may wear a suit but should think about comfort. Suggestions for girls include pants, capris, skirts, or sun dresses. Dresses and skirts should be of appropriate length and shoes should have a lower heel. Strapless dresses, semi-formal wear, and long gowns are not appropriate for an event such as this.

BIG BUCK$ 2019 – Let’s go BMS!! Let’s go!!

Calendars are just $10 each with great winnings throughout the month of March. Your student should turn in the BOTTOM slip from the calendar all filled out with cash or check made out to Beverly Middle School to their first period teacher every day they have them! The buyer should keep the calendar portion! 

The homeroom in each grade with the most calendars sold by February 14 wins a BAGEL WORLD BREAKFAST! We have not gotten slips from all homerooms!! Let’s go, who will win it this year!!???

IN ADDITION…..the child who sells each winning calendar in the month of March will get $10 cash for themselves!!

Gr 8 - BHS Curriculum Night 2/26

The will be a Curriculum Night held Tuesday, February 26 at 7:00 pm at Beverly High School for any families of students considering or planning to attend BHS next fall as 9th graders.

BHS guidance counselors will be visiting all BMS 8th grade teams starting the week of February 25 to hand out course recommendation/selection sheets and to help students pick electives for next fall. Students will bring these home and they must be returned with a parent/guardian signature by Monday, March 4. 8th Grade Moveup Day will be held on June 3.

Cell Phone Policy Reminders

Please review the school cell phone policy with your children. It is also posted on our digital signage throughout the school.

All phones must be placed in students’ lockers prior to 8:45. If this expectation is not met, the below will occur:
  • 1st Offense - Cell phone returned to student at the end of the day 
  • 2nd Offense - Cell phone returned at end of day to student AFTER an Asst. Principal issues warning & talks with parent 
  • 3rd Offense - Parent must come to school and pick up cell phone

Fab Lab

Fab Lab will be meeting after school today in room 316 from 3:00 to 3:45

Student Council Raises over $1,000!

The results are in! With the help of BMS staff and students, Student Council has raised a grand total of $1,088.44 for the California Wildfire Foundation! You helped us more than double our original goal! We will get to help all those families in need that were disrupted by the wildfires!

1st Place is team 7 Cabot with $506.69
2nd Place is Team 8 Cabot with $157.58
3rd Place is 5th grade, Neighborhood 2 with $103.31

As promised, Mr. Webber, Mrs. Doring, Mrs. Mat, Mr. Houli, and Mrs. Pasquarelli will be dying their hair in support of this fundraiser! 

7 Cabot you will get to vote on the color of Mrs. Pasquarelli's hair at the end of the week!

Beverly Little League

Registration is now open for Beverly Little League for boys and girls ages 5-12. Things to know:

  • Evaluations will take place Feb. 10 and Feb. 24
  • All returning Majors players must be registered by Feb. 9
  • All 12 year olds will play for Majors

Tuesday Afternoon Parent Volunteer for Library

BMS librarian Ms. Woznick is seeing 2 parent volunteers to help in the library after school on Tuesdays. The library is open and Ms. Woznick is there, but she is busy with Newspaper Club students. A parent volunteer who can help students find books, check them out, and generally keep an eye on students who are not in newspaper club from 3-3:45 would be great. She will show you what to do! Ideally, would like to find 2 parents who can alternate and back each other up. Please email Ms. Woznick at awoznick@beverlyschools.org if you are interested.

BMS Science Fair Update

Beverly Middle School's Science Fair is coming on Tuesday, February 26th!

PTO News & Updates

The last PTO fundraiser for the year is the Cash Calendar and is underway right now! Your participation directly impacts the kids and how much the PTO can fund each year!!

Please put 4/4/19 at 6:30 in the BMS library in your calendar for the next BMS PTO meeting! The PTO had a great meeting on 1/24/19 in the Library. It was a great place to be on a cold night!! Our meeting minutes, where we talk about Nature's Classroom and the Science Fair, are attached for all parents.

Used clothing and old textiles you donate to the BMS PTO funds field trips and various other events for the kids. BMS' two textile donation bins are located on Colon and Sohier streets outside the old Briscoe building. Don't throw those old towels and t-shirts in the trash - donate them! Thanks for your donations!!

Gay Straight Alliance

The Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) meets Wednesday mornings in room 215 from 8:10 to 8:40. 

It is facilitated by Mr. English and Ms. Dwyer. All allies welcome! Students can stop by to hang out, play games, and support one another.

BMS staff and students work together to develop good habits for a sound mind, healthy body, and safe surroundings while overcoming challenges and fostering opportunities. By teaching proven habits and learning about modern pitfalls, our Beverly Middle School community offers students a chance to be healthy, happy, and successful individuals. 

Mr. Houlihan, grade 7 school adjustment counselor, is writing a new monthly series “From Mr. Houli’s Desk.”
