Early Release 12:15 - No School Monday

We want to remind you that:
  • Today, Friday, January 17 will be an early release day for students. They will be dismissed at 12:15  pm. Lunch will not be served. Students must leave the building, as the afternoon is set aside for teacher professional development time.
  • Monday, January 20 is a no-school day for both students and staff, in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

MLK Jr Day Community Breakfast

The Beverly Human Rights Committee and the Multi-faith Coalition are sponsoring a Community Breakfast in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr, Day on Monday, January 20th from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. at the Beverly Middle School, 502 Cabot Street. The event is co-hosted by Beverly Youth.

The free event will feature guest speakers, student presentations, music, and community conversations. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.

PTO Meeting Tonight @ 6pm

The next PTO meeting will be held tomorrow, Thursday, January 16th at 6:00 p.m. in the BMS library. The Chorus Concert is at 7:00 p.m. on the 16th as well. If you are planning on attending the concert, please consider stopping in the PTO meeting before the concert starts!

We are looking for volunteers to help with the Cash Calendar, which is our biggest fundraiser of the year! The PTO has a Treasurer role and co-President role available for the school year beginning in July/August.

The Winter Chorus Concert, which was reschedules from December due to bad weather, will be tonight, Thursday January 16th, from 7:00- 8:00 pm.

Chorus students are to be here at 6:30pm in the auditorium.

Admission is free, but concessions will be sold, so bring some extra cash!

North Shore Community Development Inc., Lifebridge North Shore, and River House, are asking us to rally our students, friends, family, and networks to support the mission to end homelessness.

The Polar Plunge helps combat homelessness and gives an opportunity for groups and individuals to make some great changes in their community and beyond!  The North Shore Polar Plunge supports organizations in both Salem and Beverly.

Musical Auditions After Vacation

Beverly Middle School will be presenting Lion King Jr. this spring! Auditions will be held on Tuesday, February 25 after school in the BMS auditorium and callbacks will be on Monday, March 2. Not everyone who auditions for the show will be called back for a part, but everyone will be cast.

Everyone who is auditioning will take part in a short dance audition. If you are looking for a lead role or a solo singing role, you should prepare a verse and chorus of a song that makes you shine! You will need a karaoke track to sing with.

Honors Choir Auditions

Hundreds of Items in Lost & Found

There are hundreds of items in the lost and found right now, all accumulated since Thanksgiving.

Anything tagged in December will be donated in February, before vacation. Also, ALL water bottles and lunchboxes in the lost and found will be disposed of the week before vacation for sanitary reasons.

Please make a point of having your child check the lost and found outside the library if s/he is missing any sweaters, jackets, pants, shirts, lunchboxes, water bottles, backpacks or other items, or stop by yourself to look.

Vacation & Summer Activities and Camps

It's time to start planning for vacations and summertime!

Harborlight Experience Weeks are one-week adventures that line up with public and private school vacation weeks this winter and spring.

The 5th Annual Cape Ann Summer Program Fair is coming on Saturday, January 25 at Rockport Elementary School from 1-3 pm.

Art Club Dates

Art Club meets on Mondays and alternates between 5th grade only and meetings for 6th/7th/8th graders only. Here is the schedule for Jan-March 2020.

5th grade meets: Jan 13, Feb 3, Feb 24, March 9, March 23

6th, 7th, 8th grades meet: Jan 27, Feb 10, March 2, March 16, March 30

Science Fair 2/27 - Sign Up Now!

BMS’s second annual Science Fair is on Thursday February 27th!

There will be three mentoring sessions open to all grades. These sessions are optional but many students will find them useful! The first was on January 9. There are two more coming up:

How are you doing so far? And what to do next?

Thursday, February 6 - Third Session:
Putting the Display Together.

Lost and Found

There are hundreds of items in the lost and found right now, all accumulated since Thanksgiving. Anything that was tagged in December will be donated in February, before vacation.

Please  make a point of having your child check the lost and found outside the library if s/he is missing any sweaters, jackets, pants, shirts, lunchboxes, water bottles, backpacks or other items.

Poetry Contest Now Open

The Beverly Public Library's 24 Annual Teen Poetry Contest is now accepting entries, through Friday, February 28 at 4:00 pm. It is open to all students who live and/or go to school in the city of Beverly in grades 6 through 12. There are separate categories for middle and high school students. Finalists will be invited to a ceremony at the end of April and winners are announced at that time, with cash and other prizes awarded.

Online submissions are strongly encouraged, but you may submit on paper - get an entry form from Ms. Woznick in the BMS library or at the public library.

Babysitting Class Starts Thursday

An American Red Cross babysitting class for students in grades 5-8 will be held at Glen Urquhart School on Thursdays beginning January 16 and running through March 5.

This course is designed to help participants develop leadership skills, learn how to keep themselves and others safe, gain useful tools for managing behavior with young children, learn basic child care and first aid. Participants will also learn techniques on how to promote themselves as a trained babysitter.
There are still a couple of spots available, so please sign up ASAP!

Transportation is available from BMS at 3:15 to GUS. Students must be picked up at GUS at 5:00 pm.

BMS Spring Musical Auditions 2/25

Beverly Middle School will be presenting Lion King Jr. this spring! Auditions will be held on Tuesday, February 25 after school in the BMS auditorium and callbacks will be on Monday, March 2. Not everyone who auditions for the show will be called back for a part, but everyone will be cast.

All students who would like to audition to be in the show will be taught a short dance by our choreographer, so that we can see their skills. 

Any student looking for a solo singing role or a leading role should come prepared with the a verse and chorus of a song that shows off their talent. Students are required to bring a karaoke track to sing along with.
