Music Opportunities for BMS Students

One of the many great opportunities that students have at Beverly Public Schools is the ability to participate in the Music Performance Ensembles: Band, Chorus and String Orchestra. Each group performs several concerts throughout the year, plays for many school and civic events, and even takes exciting field trips to different locations for competitions and community outreach. Middle School students who join the Music Performance Ensembles do not need any prior musical experience- it is never too late to join!

Band, Chorus and String Orchestra are all considered academic courses that occur during the school day, so students earn a grade for participating. Students have the ability to participate in up to two different Music Performance Groups at Beverly Middle School.

If your student is interested in becoming a member of any of the Performing Ensembles, please fill out the Google Interest Form to sign them up. To find out more about the instruments available to your student in the Band and String Orchestra groups, please visit the Interactive Recruitment page we created (you can visit the link or you can visit the attachment to this email).

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us:

Jen Nearis, 5th-6th Grade Chorus (j.nearis@beverlschools.org)
Alexis Carr, 5th-8th Grade Band (acarr@beverlyschools.org) Band Website
Nick Krafka, 5th-8th Grade Band (nkrafka@beverlyschools.org) Band Website

Track Practice Cancelled Friday

Attention all BMS track & field team members, due to heavy thunderstorms in today's forecast, today's practice has been CANCELLED. Again, today's track practice has been cancelled

Track Team Triumphs

The BMS Track & Field team had another legendary day down on 100 Sohier Rd, the home of Beverly High School Panthers and our town’s finest athletic facilities. The stars seemed to align as a dreary, rainy forecast broke and eventually transformed into a beautiful day bursting with sunshine and new personal records set on the track for the team’s final meet of the season. The Beverly High School coaches and teammates came by to help support the team in a great display of community partnership, along with many parents and BMS staff members. Many were heard praising the talents of the young middle school stars they saw before them. A number of BMS athletes had all-star days, including but not limited to….

Jayelyn Valerio, a rising star in Beverly sports with a promising future as a varsity athlete, showed her bravery and grit as she surpassed all expectations, crushing the 100 meter dash and hurdles as if she had been doing it for years.

Calvin Barrett once again showed up to win, and win he did. With his ever-increasing speed and superhuman endurance, some say he might be part robot. Others say he might actually be a 20 year old disguised as an 8th grader. No one really knows. The BMS track team will be sad to see him leave this year, as he goes on to compete in the big leagues next year at BHS.

In a remarkable act of courage, 8th graders Lindsay Kazynski and Kennedy Moyle volunteered at the last minute to run the 400 meter, stepping up when the team needed them most. Parents and coaches cheered as they rounded the corners. They were cool. They were brave. They were BMS.

Norah Wright has been a star scholar-athlete and an inspiration to the teammates and coaches alike with her consistent dominant performance over the years. She also showed up to win, running the mile in just over 6 minutes. After Daniel Wilder had tilted the earth off its axis in the previous track meet with his blinding speed, it is believed that Norah’s equally impressive performance returned the earth back to its normal orientation. She literally saved the world.

When Christopher (pronounced MEETA) Mita stepped up to throw the discus, jaws dropped when he immediately hit a new personal record on his first throw. Coach Arsnow’s jaw dropped, along with his clipboard and megaphone. He just dropped everything. Coach Devlin saw the discus sailing and thought it was a UFO at first.

Adeline Kontos and Infinity Burns showed off their strength and skills in the shot put arena, each hurling the shot put 20 feet into the air, setting the girls record for the day. This is incredibly impressive. Their Danvers opponents slunk away in defeat, in awe of the stunning display of athleticism that lay before them.

No one has ever seen a meet so impeccably timed as it was by Coach Sherman. Always a team player, she even stayed long after the meet was over to make sure all the team’s equipment was safe and secure. If you see her today, give her a warm smile and a “thank you.”

A special thank you to the BMS staff members who showed up to volunteer and support the team, we could not have run the meet with you. This includes Mrs. McAfee, Mrs. Norton, Mrs. Shaw, Mr. Brennan and several others!

Track Team Victory!

Yesterday, the BMS track & field team faced a formidable Danvers middle school squad. They fought their way to victory under blue skies in the late afternoon sun of the Danvers High School sports complex.

The BMS Panthers had many heroic performances through the day, but here are just a few highlights:

Libby Ulrich stepped up in her first ever track race, stunning her coaches with a dominant 2nd place finish in a very competitive field.

Ray Kwiatek ran the 400 m in under one minute, a feat everyone said could not be done.

Xavier Parsons hurdled his way to victory, earning a decisive win over his opponents

Daniel Wilder won the 800 meter run easily, leaving his opponents in a cloud of dust. In fact, he moved so fast, he shifted the earth's rotation and MAY have tilted it slightly off its axis.

Trey Redmond soared on the high jump event, clearing 5 feet 4 inches. He leapt high enough to jump over Coach Sherman’s head, with inches to spare!

Eric Santangelo torched his opponents on the 100 m dash, running so fast he broke the sound barrier and blew Coach Arsnow clear out of his shoes. Mr. Arsnow now has to buy a new pair of shoes.

Calvin Barrett ran a mile with such blinding speed his competitors merely saw a blur flying past them. Coach Devlin’s hat blew clear off his head and he’s been chasing it ever since!

Dropoff and Pickup Reminders

As a friendly reminder and courtesy to our neighbors across on Cabot Street, we ask that you please not park in the lots across from the midldle school during drop off and pick up. This has been disrupting business and we have been asked to kindly remind you.

The Cummings Center remains an area where all are welcome to park for both drop off and pick up. We are also working with our crossing guards and the Beverly Police Department to move the traffic flow at a better pace. This may entail waiting for a small group of students to use the crosswalk as opposed to walking students one at a time.

Do you have new or new-like baseball or softball equipment that you don’t use? BMS 8th grader Riley Michael is collecting equipment to give to The Double Play Youth Baseball Donation Program Please donate this week!

Prepare for School This Week

Beginning Monday, April 12, all BMS students who attend in-person will be at school 5 days a week until 3, except on Wednesdays when they will be dismissed at 1pm.

Lunches will be very different than in the past. On any given day, about half of students will be eating outside and they will rotate on a regular basis between indoor and outdoor locations. Outdoor areas are partially tented and will provide some protection from rain and sun.

This week will be cool and overcast with some possible showers on some days.  Dress accordingly for both outdoor dining and scheduled outdoor snack/mask breaks during the school day.

There are also changes to the dropoff and pickup routine. The front entrance is ONLY for students arriving in certain buses and vans or those who are tardy, arriving after 8:45.  All other students must enter through their own neighborhood doors between 8:30-8:45. Those eating breakfast may enter through the cafeteria doors at 8:15.

Please review this letter that went out Thursday to families with lots of details about changes that begin on Monday, April 12. Highlights are below, but please read the memo closely for details!

Covid Testing Available for BMS Students

This information was contained in an email from Superintendent Sue Charochak that you may have received last week. The items that pertain to BMS students are replicated here for your convenience:

Beverly Middle School and Elementary students and staff may participate in Covid-19 testing on Thursdays from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm at the Beverly High School cafeteria. The testing will be administered by Cataldo Ambulance and is voluntary. All BMS and elementary students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

All people (staff and students) interested in being tested need to sign up for an appointment by using this link. https://app.acuityscheduling.com/schedule.php?owner=21373514&calendarID=5156171

In the coming weeks, the district plans to expand the pooled testing opportunity to the Middle School. More information on that will be forwarded to you when it is finalized. In the meantime, we will continue to offer our PCR surveillance testing as a mitigation strategy for all students.

All testing information is confidential under HIPAA compliance laws. Positive cases are reported to the Beverly Board of Health.
