Supply Lists

Supply lists for the 2019-2020 school year are now available.

Please note that because lockers are smaller than traditional ones, and due to use of technology instead of large textbooks in many cases, we recommend your child use a smaller cinch sack instead of a larger backpack for bringing in items from home every day.

Summer Math

Dear Parents and Students:

Summer work, such as math packets and novel reading, can be useful in achieving grade-level mastery and “bridging” the gap between school years. We believe that any assigned summer work should be appropriate and purposeful.

These summer math packets and directions were developed to provide students an opportunity to review grade level math objectives and to improve math performance. We hope this helps to build anticipation for new learning and give students confidence in their abilities so that they are well prepared for the next level of math.

Entering 5th Grade
This packet will help ease the transition and help reinforce skills that are needed prior to the start of fifth grade to ensure future success. Download the packet here. We are also providing the answer key, so that student progress can be monitored throughout the summer.

Entering 6th and 7th grade - IXL Practice
This practice can help ease the transition and help reinforce skills that are needed prior to the start of seventh grade to ensure future success. This is an optional assignment, so it will not be counted as a grade. Go to IXL.com and enter Username: First initial, last name rcann@beverly (some students may have a 1 or 2 after their name---rcann1@beverly) and Password: First name in lowercase letters
Entering 8th grade - REQUIRED packet
The attached grade 8 math packet is a set of problems all students entering grade eight are REQUIRED to complete as a way to assist in transitioning to eighth grade. You should plan to do one topic a week for 6 weeks of summer break. These packets are due on Wednesday, September 4, the second day back at school.

Summer Reading

Entering grades 6 - 7 - 8
We are asking all students entering grades 6, 7 and 8 to read TWO books this summer.
  • One book should be from the lists we provide (unless a student has received other instructions from a teacher)
  • One book should be a graphic novel of the student's choosing.
Students should create ONE response piece after reading the book selected from the summer reading list. There are a number of different choices for response pieces. There is no assignment connected with the graphic novel; students will simply record the title and author and may be asked one or two brief questions about the book in September.

This year, in order to give students broader choices, the BMS and BHS book lists are labeled as "recommended" for grades 5 and up, grades 7 and up or grades 9 and up. Students at either school may select a book off of any one of these three listsHowever, parents and students should be aware that some subject matter or reading levels from lists that are higher than what is recommended for a student's grade may or may not be appropriate, depending on the child.  Keep in mind that books that are on lower grade reading lists are not necessarily "easier." We encourage you to be an active participant in your child's summer reading selection -- consider reading the book with your child or listening to an audiobook as a family, perhaps on a car trip this summer!

Entering Grade 5
There is no summer reading requirement or assignment for students entering grade 5. They are strongly encouraged to read off the list recommended for grades 5 and up and/or the public library list, and to participate in the Beverly Public Library summer reading program in the children's room.

Information about summer reading is posted at https://beverlymssummerreading.blogspot.com/ and will be updated regularly.

Summer Reading Information

BMS librarian Ms. Woznick has met with all 5th, 6th and 7th grade classes about summer reading requirements. Mrs. Fecteau, the BHS librarian, visited 8th grade classes to review BHS requirements.

There will be a number of different choices for response pieces, which will be available by next week.

And books that are on lower grade reading lists are not necessarily "easier." We encourage you to be an active participant in your child's summer reading selection -- consider reading the book yourself or listen to an audiobook as a family.

Note: There are no summer reading requirements for students entering grade 5. They are strongly encouraged to read off the grade 5+ list we provide and/or the public library list, and to participate in the Beverly Public Library summer reading program in the children's room.

Information about summer reading is posted at https://beverlymssummerreading.blogspot.com/ and will be updated regularly.

Gr 7 - Summer Math Packet

Dear Parents and Students:

Summer work, such as math packets and novel reading, can be useful in achieving grade-level mastery and “bridging” the gap between school years. We believe that any assigned summer work should be appropriate and purposeful. This summer math packet was developed to provide students entering eighth grade an opportunity to review grade-level math objectives and to improve math performance. We hope this helps to build anticipation for new learning and give students confidence in their abilities so that they are well prepared for the next level of math. This packet can help ease the transition and help reinforce skills that are needed prior to the start of eighth grade to ensure future success.

The attached math packet is a set of problems all students entering grade eight are REQUIRED to complete as a way to assist in transitioning to eighth grade. You should plan to do one topic a week for 6 weeks of summer break. These packets are due on Wednesday, September 4, the second day back at school.

Thank you for your continued support and have a great summer!

iPad & iPad Charger Collection Information

All student iPads will be collected by Friday, June 7 and placed in charging stations at school. They will be disabled at the conclusion of that day so that the tech department may properly inventory them and begin the process of preparing for the next school year.

Grade 7 students will turn in only the iPad, but should keep their school-issued iPad charger over the summer to use the next school year. Students not returning to BMS should turn their charger in. Please put your child's charger in a safe location and be sure it is labeled properly so it doesn't get mixed up with other chargers in the household. Your child will need it next school year and will be responsible for turning it in at the end of 8th grade.

Grade 8 students are responsible for turning in their school-issued iPad charger this week (along with the iPad). Team teachers will give students directions on when and where to turn it in.
