Remote Learning Plan Phase IV

In case you missed it earlier this week, you can view a copy of the Remote Learning Plan Phase IV here. This update of the Remote Learning Plan contains information on how we plan to document grades on your child’s report card and how we will plan curriculum for the 2020-2021 school year. Please note that last day of the 2019-2020 school year is Friday, June 19, 2020.

National Jr. Honor Society Video Induction

This year, the 2020 NJHS Induction Ceremony is in the form of a video due to our world-wide pandemic.

On this video you will find a brief acknowledgement of what it means to be a National Junior Honor Society member, the official reading of names of each of our newest inductees, and brief examples of the pledge that all of our NJHS inductees took. You will also see a compilation of each inductee's personal slides where students were asked write a brief summary of their community service experience, an excerpt from their essay on "What it means to be a NJHS Student," and an acknowledgement of their honored guest.

You may pause, fast-forward, and re-watch as many times as you wish! Feel free to also reach out to congratulate any of these students, because losing these physical gatherings is hard, and we want them to know that we are thinking of them.

We are all extremely proud of each and every one of our 2020 NJHS Inductees!

Co-Advisors to the BMS NJHS

Book of the Day: Forward Me Back To You

Forward Me Back to You by Mitali Perkins

The award-winning author of You Bring the Distant Near explores identity, homecoming, and the legacy of assault in this personal and ambitious new novel. Katina King is the reigning teen jujitsu champion of Northern California, but she's having trouble fighting off the secrets in her past. Robin Thornton was adopted from an orphanage in India and is reluctant to take on his future. If he can't find his roots, how can he possibly plan ahead? Robin and Kat meet in the most unlikely of places—a summer service trip to Kolkata to work with survivors of human trafficking. As bonds build between the travelmates, Robin and Kat discover that justice and healing are tangled, like the pain of their pasts and the hope for their futures. You can't rewind life; sometimes you just have to push play. In turns heart wrenching, beautiful, and buoyant, Mitali Perkins's Forward Me Back to You focuses its lens on the ripple effects of violence—across borders and generations—and how small acts of heroism can break the cycle.

BMS Librarian Ms. Woznick is recommending a book a day! All Books of the Day are available online. You can get either the ebook or eaudio of Forward Me Back to You from Overdrive (use the Libby app) with a Beverly Public Library Card. Want a physical book? All Honor a Teacher funds are earmarked to fund teacher grants each year.

The Beverly Education Foundation's Annual Honor A Teacher drive promotes the honoring of "teachers" to include all exemplary educators who have made a positive difference in the life of a Beverly public school student. Funds raised go directly to fund teacher/parent grants, which are awarded each spring. "Honor a Teacher" who made a difference in your life.

Book of the Day: City of Ghosts

City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab
City of Ghosts

Ever since her near-fatal drowning, Cassidy has been able to pull back the "Veil" that separates the living from the dead and see ghosts, not that she wants to, and she was really looking forward to a ghost-free summer at the beach; however her parents are going to start filming a TV series about the world's most haunted places, starting with Edinburgh with its graveyards, castles, and restless phantoms--and Cass and her personal ghost companion, Jacob, are about to find out that a city of old ghosts can be a very dangerous place indeed.
