August 7 Message from Superintendent

Here is a copy of the August 7 letter from Dr. Charochak in case you missed it or want to re-read it. This letter outlines decisions voted on by the Beverly School Committee on August 6.

The email from Dr. Charochak also included links to the following documents:

You should expect to hear from building principals in the next week to confirm with which option you will select each child for the upcoming school year. Please make sure you are receiving communications from the district and call the BMS school office if you need to update your contact information, by calling 978-921-6103 during business hours.

All students will begin school in their approved model on Wednesday, September 16, 2020.

August 4 Message from the Principal

In case you missed the August 4 letter from our principal, Mrs. Lisa Oliver, or would like to re-read it, it has been replicated below:

August 4, 2020

Dear BMS Families,

We are writing today to tell you that we are here. Though the school building is virtually empty for the summer, you and your children are at the forefront of our minds as we plan for the many scenarios that we will potentially face together this fall. We thank you for your survey responses, as they give us a window into your family’s needs, your individual concerns, and the difficult decisions that you are making for your children. We know that these decisions are not easy (we are making them for our families, too!) and we also know that any decision you make is the right one for your family.

We have been working diligently alongside the Superintendent and School Committee to collaboratively create the three plans that were requested by the Commissioner of Education. Along with these plans come many pieces to a complex puzzle that will be our 2020-2021 school year. The school committee will vote on district plans this Thursday night, August 6th. Friday morning we hope to have a clearer picture of how to proceed. Schedules, team assignments, iPad distribution, supply lists and a welcoming plan for our fifth graders are all dependent upon the choices made in the coming days. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to anyone on the administrative team. Thank you in advance for your patience.

Sincerely,

Lisa Oliver, Principal loliver@beverlyschools.org
Jamie Norton, Assistant Principal, jnorton@beverlyschools.org
Erica Pasquarelli, Assistant Principal, epasquarelli@beverlyschools.org
Kate Twombly, Assistant Principal, ktwombly@beverlyschools.org

Ways to Get Free Books

BMS Librarian Ms. Woznick has dozens of great used books from her giveaway bins and would love to get them into the hands of kids to read and enjoy this summer!

You can request a free book (1 per week)! There are many titles that are great for kids in grades 5-7 but there are also some that are perfect for younger and for older kids as well.
  1. Please see the list of giveaway books online - if you see one that looks good to you, then
  2. fill out this form to request it.
If you sign by up Thursday evening, you will get a confirmation email and be able to pick the book up at Beverly High School on Friday morning, during the same times that food is available for pickup (10:30-12:30). Books will be put into in a plain paper bag with your name on it and placed in the vestibule outside the cafeteria. If you are unable to get to the high school to pick it up, you will have an option to provide your address so it can be delivered to your home (Beverly only), but this may take a little longer.

If you have questions, please contact Ms. Woznick: awoznick@beverlyschools.org.

Also... check out this Facebook Group: Beverly Kids Love Books! It's an easy, local way to sell/pass on gently used kids books, run by a local parent.

Finally - keep in mind that the Beverly Public Library has "front door service" and has started expanding some of their services, so check out their website as well!
