A Message from the BMS Nurses

While the coronavirus from China has been getting the headlines lately, a far greater threat to our community right now is the flu. The national Centers for Disease Control estimate that so far this season alone there have been at least 140,000 hospitalizations and 8,200 deaths from flu.

Influenza severity for Massachusetts has increased from moderate to high this week. The main precautions we can take to minimize the impact of the flu are:
  • Wash hands even more frequently, paying attention to areas between fingers and under nails and scrubbing for at least 20 seconds (it's longer than you think!). If you don't have access to soap and water, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • If your child exhibits any symptoms of the flu or a cold, play it safe and keep them at home. One day at home to nip things in the bud is better for everyone than sending a child to school who then spreads their germs, may need to get picked up in the middle of the day, and then often needs additional sick days out of school.
  • It's not too late to get a flu vaccine! Check with your child's doctor or at a walk-in clinic.
The Mass. Dept. of Public Health has a helpful informational guide for parents about the flu.

5 Racks of Items in Lost & Found

Just one of 5 full racks in los and found
The Lost and Found outside the library has now filled 5 whole racks with sweaters, jackets, shirts and pants. There are also dozens of lunchboxes, gloves, hats, and other items.

Items new to the lost and found are tagged regularly with the date and may be donated to charity after they  have been there for over a month. All items tagged in December or earlier will be donated before February vacation! (Note that if items have  a students full name, we will contact the student to pick the item up before it is donated.)

See current photos of the lost and  found, urge your child to check it,  or stop by yourself!
