Letter for Families About Next Week

A letter went out Thursday to families with lots of details about changes that begin on Monday, April 12. Highlights are below, but please read the memo closely for details!

School Hours

• Students are in school M/Tu/Th/Fri 8:30 A.M.-3:00 P.M. & Wednesday 8:30 A.M.-1:00 P.M.
• ONLY those having breakfast may enter at 8:15
• All others enter starting at 8:30
• Students must be in homeroom by 8:45

Dropoff and Pickup

• BIG CHANGE: The front entrance is used only for bus/van students, no cars!
• All cars enter on Balch Street
• All cars leave out onto CABOT Street RIGHT TURN ONLY. 
• No parking or standing. 
• If your child is not ready to exit the car, please drive around the block.
• 7th and 8th grade families are welcome to drop off or pick up across Balch Street in the Cummings Center parking lot.
• BIG CHANGE: Dismissal begins at 2:50 P.M. (12:50 on Wednesday) Check the memo for information about when your child is dismissed.

What to Bring to School Each Day

• Fully charged school iPad
• Backpack large enough to carry all belongings (lockers are not being used this year)
• Refillable Water Bottle
• Lunch if you do not want a free school lunch
• Snack(s) (multiple if you get hungry)
• Mask(s) (we always have available masks at each entrance)

Lunch

• We have six lunch locations where students can sit and eat 6 feet apart
• Three of these locations are indoors, and three are outdoors. 
• Outdoor areas are partially tented and will provide some protection from rain and sun. 
• We will be eating outside rain or shine - dress accordingly!

Middle School Outdoor Track Registration

Registration is open from April 5th to April 26th for Middle School Outdoor Track Boys/Girls. Please register your student online at https://beverlyhs-ar.rschooltoday.com. 

When you register, please upload a current physical during the registration process. The User Fee of $105.00 can be paid online at www.beverlyschools.org, "Make A Payment" or mail in a check to Beverly High School, 100 Sohier Road, Attn. Athletic Department (check payable to Beverly Public Schools). 

The Middle School Outdoor Track season will be beginning during the first week of May. Please call the Athletic Department with any questions 978-921-6132 ext. 12139.

Lunch & Breakfast Reminder

Food Services reminds families that lunch will be provided daily and is free to ALL students. We encourage you and your students to try the lunch program if you have not in the past. The menu can be found on the Beverly Public Schools website under resources.

Breakfast will be offered each morning at BMS at 8:15. In addition we will have a take home breakfast option available for students as they leave each day to enjoy the following day at home before school.

Meal Pickup Changes

This Friday April 9 will be our last day for daily remote meal pickups at Beverly High School. With the Middle School returning to full in school learning on Monday April 12 all of our students are in person for lunch except RLA families and some High School Students. High School students will be offered an additional meal for the days they are learning remotely when they leave school each day.

Families that are part of the RLA program and have not signed up for the weekly meal pickups may reach out to Christina Leal at 978-921-6132 ext 11129 to be added to the list.

Weekend meals will be available for pickups every Wednesday at Beverly High School from 12:30-1:30 beginning Wednesday April 14.

Gr 8 - Course Selection Sheets Due Friday 4/9

Guidance counselors from BHS visited our 8th graders last week. Here is the presentation that they saw.

BHS has posted a set of documents and resources on their website for the grade 8 > 9 transition.

Please remember that BHS course selection sheets are due to Mr. Twombly by Friday 4/9!

Covid Testing Available for BMS Students

This information was contained in an email from Superintendent Sue Charochak that you may have received on Monday. The items that pertain to BMS students are replicated here for your convenience:

Beverly Middle School and Elementary students and staff may participate in Covid-19 testing on Thursdays from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm at the Beverly High School cafeteria. The testing will be administered by Cataldo Ambulance and is voluntary. All BMS and elementary students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

In the coming weeks, the district plans to expand the pooled testing opportunity to the Middle School. More information on that will be forwarded to you when it is finalized. In the meantime, we will continue to offer our PCR surveillance testing as a mitigation strategy for all students.

All testing information is confidential under HIPAA compliance laws. Positive cases are reported to the Beverly Board of Health.

Also, a couple of schedule reminders: 

• Starting Monday, April 12, students will be in school from 8:45 to 3:00 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On Wednesdays, students will be dismissed at 1:00pm. They will not have online classes in the afternoon.
• Spring vacation is from Monday, April 19 through Friday, April 23.

Beverly Public Library April Events

The Beverly Public Library's Teen program has a number of virtual events going on in April that BMS students may be interested in:

Beverly Education Foundation Funds BMS Grant

Thanks to a menstrual equity grant written by our BMS school nurse Jodi Elder and librarian Alix Woznick, and funded by the Beverly Education Foundation, we now have period products in student bathrooms and can also provide more to students in need. We don't want anyone missing class or missing school because of a menstrual period! As the educational portion of this grant, we have also developed a website: periods.beverlyschools.org and will soon provide more student access to books about puberty through the library, nurses's office and with online ebooks.

Red Sox Spirit Day April 1

This Thursday April 1st, BMS is kicking off the 2021 baseball season with a Red Sox Spirit Day! It's the season/home opener for the Sox at Fenway Park! Staff and students will be wearing their Red Sox gear or the color red! 

A reminder that school rules about clothing are still in force - hats may not be worn in school.

We are hoping to have a fun day and show off our Sox attire before the well deserved long weekend!

New Bus Rider? Registration Deadline Tomorrow!

On Monday April 12th Beverly Middle School will be returning to an all in schedule with the following schedule. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8:45am until 3:00pm and on Wednesdays from 8:45am until 1:00pm. 

If you have a student returning from RLA to in-school instruction, and live 2 or more miles walking distance from school, please register for the bus on the Transportation page of the Beverly Schools website. Choose the "Regular education application." 

The deadline for registering is tomorrow, Tuesday March 30th in order to take the bus on April 12th. If you have any questions, please call us at 978-921-6109.
