Supply Lists To Be Ready Soon

We are working on the supply lists for each grade level, but they are not quite ready to be posted online yet. We regret any confusion and plan to have them available in the coming days. Please expect the list to be largely similar to those in past years, but to have some changes due to the current situation.

Grade 5 Information

The following letter went out to BMS families on Thursday, August 20. A copy is included here for your convenience.

August 20, 2020

Dear Grade 5 Families,

Here are a few pieces of information regarding the Grade 5 Open House next Wednesday August 26th and the School Supply List:
  • You should have received (or should soon receive) this mailing with your own invitation and assigned appointment time. As a back-up, we have created an alphabetical list of students with their assigned appointment times that you can access here.
  • Open House will certainly not feel like those we have hosted in the past but we hope it will still be a safe and fun opportunity to bring students to the building. Also, it is an opportunity to give them their iPad that will be assigned to them during their time as a BMS student.
  • As stated on the invitation, this Open House is not mandatory. If you are not comfortable attending, or can’t attend, a recorded version will be made available. We can also arrange alternative times to pick up student's iPads.
To help with the flow of foot traffic at Open House, please fill out this Middle School Device Use Agreement form prior to arrival Wednesday night. Thank you in advance for helping with this.

We are looking forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,
The BMS Administrative Team

Important Letter from BMS Principal Mrs. Oliver

BMS families should be receiving this email from the principal on August 12, but it is replicated here for your convenience.

Dear BMS Families,

As a follow up to our recent school committee meeting vote, I am reaching out with additional information and a request for your assistance.

As we open in the fall of 2020, grades 5 and 6 will be in a hybrid model. This means that each grade will be divided into two cohorts. These cohorts will be face to face with teachers two times a week from 8:45 - 1:00.

Grades 7 and 8 are to begin the school year in a remote environment which may change based on data regarding Covid19.  All students are eligible for the Remote Learning Academy and can enroll for remote learning for the entire school year.

Attached you will find a survey outlining our need to receive a decision from you in terms of how your child will start the school year. This should be completed no later than Tuesday, August 18th

You will also find a flyer explaining the Remote Learning Academy coupled with a FAQ flyer to help answer your questions.

We know this is a challenging time for many. We encourage you to reach out with questions. A lack of information often causes additional and unnecessary stress and anxiety. We are striving to be clear, consistent and empathetic to individual needs with our communication.

I look forward to building strong relationships with families and look forward to working with you to provide the best possible learning environment for your child. Now more than ever we need to work together to problem solve and be positive role models for our community.

This information can also be found on Homeward Bound.

Best,
Lisa Oliver
BMS Principal

August 7 Message from Superintendent

Here is a copy of the August 7 letter from Dr. Charochak in case you missed it or want to re-read it. This letter outlines decisions voted on by the Beverly School Committee on August 6.

The email from Dr. Charochak also included links to the following documents:

You should expect to hear from building principals in the next week to confirm with which option you will select each child for the upcoming school year. Please make sure you are receiving communications from the district and call the BMS school office if you need to update your contact information, by calling 978-921-6103 during business hours.

All students will begin school in their approved model on Wednesday, September 16, 2020.

August 4 Message from the Principal

In case you missed the August 4 letter from our principal, Mrs. Lisa Oliver, or would like to re-read it, it has been replicated below:

August 4, 2020

Dear BMS Families,

We are writing today to tell you that we are here. Though the school building is virtually empty for the summer, you and your children are at the forefront of our minds as we plan for the many scenarios that we will potentially face together this fall. We thank you for your survey responses, as they give us a window into your family’s needs, your individual concerns, and the difficult decisions that you are making for your children. We know that these decisions are not easy (we are making them for our families, too!) and we also know that any decision you make is the right one for your family.

We have been working diligently alongside the Superintendent and School Committee to collaboratively create the three plans that were requested by the Commissioner of Education. Along with these plans come many pieces to a complex puzzle that will be our 2020-2021 school year. The school committee will vote on district plans this Thursday night, August 6th. Friday morning we hope to have a clearer picture of how to proceed. Schedules, team assignments, iPad distribution, supply lists and a welcoming plan for our fifth graders are all dependent upon the choices made in the coming days. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to anyone on the administrative team. Thank you in advance for your patience.

Sincerely,

Lisa Oliver, Principal loliver@beverlyschools.org
Jamie Norton, Assistant Principal, jnorton@beverlyschools.org
Erica Pasquarelli, Assistant Principal, epasquarelli@beverlyschools.org
Kate Twombly, Assistant Principal, ktwombly@beverlyschools.org
