Salem News: Beverly Keeps Reading
In case you missed it, the Salem News ran a story yesterday on #BeverlyKeepsReading! Click here to read the story.
It's a collaboration between the Beverly Public Schools and the Beverly Public Library to challenge our whole community to read 5,000 books this spring while we are at home.
Register now and you'll have a chance at next week's prize drawing! Each week we draw two winners - one child under 18 and one adult - to win a $25 gift card to a local Beverly business that's working to remain open at this time. Then log your books and/or write reviews to earn badges. The more badges you earn the better your chance of winning!

Online Safety Resources
The Project Safe Childhood Program in the U.S. Attorney's office has shared some information with us: "As a result of school closings due to COVID-19, children are increasingly using online resources for schoolwork as well as entertainment. Because of this, children may also be more vulnerable to online sexual exploitation. The United States Attorney’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations have partnered to develop an awareness campaign, Think Before You Click, to encourage parents and guardians to discuss internet safety with children of all ages and to continue to monitor internet use."
Looking for some other tips to help keep your kids safe while they are spending extra time online these days? Common Sense media has lots of parent resources relating to internet safety, including this recent article: How to Tell Who Your Kid Is Talking to Online—and How to Keep Their Convos Cool.
Video of BMS Students & Their Books
What are some BMS students reading while they're home? Check out this video!
It would be great to have this video be just the first in a series, so encourage your child to post a photo of them with a book or of the book itself -- or them reading on a device (but be sure they include the title of the book) -- to this Padlet page. We will not post names with photos of students.
Today is the last day of the month so it's a good time to "stock up" on Hoopla downloads (ebooks, eaudio, TV & movie downloads) from the Beverly Public Library. You get up to 10 per calendar month! How does Hoopla work? Check out this short learning video set from the BPL.
Get some more great reading ideas here and info on how/where to get books too. And don't forget to sign up for #BeverlyKeepsReading! The prizes this Friday are gift cards from The Castle, a board game cafe.

Letters About Literature Winner!
Please congratulate an 8 Balch student who is being recognized in the state-wide Massachusetts Letters About Literature competition. The program invites students in Grades 4 through 12 to read a book of their choice, reflect on it, and write a personal letter to its author, explaining the impact this work had on them.
This year they received more than 2,000 letters this year -- only 21 students in each age bracket are recognized!
Books can hold so much meaning to all of us, particularly during a tumultuous time. What is your BMS student reading these days? Click here to post a photo and title of the book! Looking for some ideas? Ms. Woznick has some suggestions for series books on Hoopla - and more recommendations.
