There were 175 overdue library books as of Thursday afternoon. Does your child have one of them?

Please have them return their books as soon as possible. If they are completing an assignment first, then return it as soon as the assignment is done. There is a book drop right inside the door to the library. There are no overdue fines.

Students must clear their library account by returning or paying for books, or they risk being excluded from certain year-end activities.

If a book is lost or destroyed, it must be paid for. Please email Ms. Woznick with questions about payment at awoznick@beverlyschools.org.

iPad & iPad Charger Collection Information

All student iPads are being collected by tomorrow, Friday, June 7 and placed in charging stations at school. They will be disabled at the conclusion of the day so that the tech department may properly inventory them and begin the process of preparing for the next school year.

Grade 7 students will turn in only the iPad, but should keep their school-issued iPad charger over the summer to use the next school year. Students not returning to BMS should turn their charger in. Please put your child's charger in a safe location and be sure it is labeled properly so it doesn't get mixed up with other chargers in the household. Your child will need it next school year and will be responsible for turning it in at the end of 8th grade.

Grade 8 students are responsible for turning in their school-issued iPad charger this week (along with the iPad). Team teachers will give students directions on when and where to turn it in.

Gr 8 - Important Dates

Only a little more than a week left! Make sure you know what is happening each day - check this list of important dates.

Summer Reading Information

BMS librarian Ms. Woznick has met with 5th and 6th grade classes about summer reading lists and expectations, and is in the process of meeting with 7th grade classes. Mrs. Fecteau, the BHS librarian, visited 8th grade classes last week to review BHS requirements.

We are asking all students entering grades 6, 7 and 8 to read TWO books this summer.
  • One book should be from the lists we provide (unless a student has received other instructions from a teacher)
  • One book should be a graphic novel of the student's choosing.
Students should create ONE response piece after reading the book selected from the summer reading list. There will be a number of different choices for response pieces, which will be available by next week. There is no assignment connected with the graphic novel; students will simply record the title and author and may be asked one or two brief questions about the book in September.

This year, in order to give students broader choices BMS and BHS book lists are labeled as "recommended" for grade 5 and up, grade 7 and up or grade 9 and up. Students at either school may select a book off of any one of these three listsHowever, parents and students should be aware that some subject matter or reading levels from lists that are higher than what is recommended for a student's grade may or may not be appropriate, depending on the child.  And books that are on lower grade reading lists are not necessarily "easier." We encourage you to be an active participant in your child's summer reading selection -- consider reading the book or listen to an audiobook as a family.

Note: There are no summer reading requirements for students entering grade 5. They are strongly encouraged to read off the grade 5+ list we provide and/or the public library list, and to participate in the Beverly Public Library summer reading program in the children's room.

Information about summer reading is posted at https://beverlymssummerreading.blogspot.com/ and will be updated regularly.

Gr 7/8 Chorus Students

There will be a brief chorus rehearsal after school today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday) from 3:00-3:45 to practice on stage and run through the songs we will be singing together! Hope to see everyone there!

Join in and bring your questions! Do you think you have a pretty good handle on it...then you realize you don’t? That it can feel like a part time job just to manage the basics? Do you have students in your house that are more savvy than you when it comes to technology? Our students have more access to technology than ever before! This is amazing...but we must make sure that we know how to keep them safe and secure.  Come and learn from people who KNOW!

There will be babysitting provided by our BMS and BHS Peer Leaders for those who attend. A range of activities will be provided. Please RSVP to Ann Gavin at anngavin@comcast.net to secure a spot with our amazing Peer Leaders.

Gr 8 - Drumline & Color Guard Meet & Greet 6/10

Grade 8 students - if you're interested in drumline or color guard at BHS, check out the annual drumline and color guard meet and greet event. This is an evening in June that we always set aside to welcome any 8th grade drummers and/or color guard enthusiasts who are trying to figure out their role within the marching band this fall. It’s a very low-key, informal event.

This year's event is on Monday 6/10 from 6:00-7:30 in the BHS Band Room and field house. Students should be dropped off and picked up by Door 11, adjacent to the athletic fields.

Percussionists will be able to meet our instructors and current drumline members during this get together, as well as try out all of the equipment used during marching band season.

Color guard enthusiasts will also be able to meet the instructor and current members, as well as learn some basic flag twirling maneuvers and learn about the color guard's important role within the marching band.
